A FIVE-YEAR-OLD FIGURES OUT HOW HIGH UP THE SKY GOES
Doping out the solution
I remember when I was about five or so, standing out in the yard looking up at the night sky and wondering where the stars disappeared to during the day. I figured they probably withdrew until they were too far away to be seen.
The next question my sledgehammer brain tussled with was how far up the sky went.
I figured, heck it's got to end somewhere.
Finally, I doped out the solution.
There had to be a brick wall up there, and that was where space prolly stopped, right at that brick wall.
It was quite a relief to figure that out.
Then it hit me -- Oh no! What's on the other side of the brick wall?
Didn't take me long to solve that puzzle. I concluded it was probably a real w-i-d-e wall.
That's when I quit. I was getting a crick in my neck from looking up anyway.
That's how my reasoning went at five. I have not progressed beyond my brick wall theory.
And I may yet be proved right.
